This is a wonderful way to start the holiday season.
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) began in 1993 when Samaritan’s Purse, an aid organization requested shoeboxes filled with gifts to distribute in war-torn Bosnia. Since then, OCC has grown to be the largest international children’s ministry of its kind. Each year shoeboxes are to refugee camps, orphanages, war-torn areas and other desperate situations. The children who receive these boxes are often living in abject poverty and have never received a gift. These shoe boxes filled with a few small gifts become a moment of joy and a reason for hope for millions of children who have little of either. Good Shepherd has been s a collection site in 2006 and continues to gather shoe boxes each year beginning the first week of November.   The shoe boxes are then delivered to an area collection site in the week preceding Thanksgiving Week.
